We utilize two tried-and-tested treatment processes: Ethylene Oxide (ETO) and Steam Sterilization. These methods have been proven effective in reducing microbial contamination and ensuring that our products remain fresh and safe to consume for extended periods.

Historically Ethylene Oxide (ETO) treatment has been the most common microbial reduction agent for use on conventional spices, this process is prohibited for use on organic products and basil (conventional or organic). Approximately half of Allegiants conventional spices are treated with ETO.
In the last 15 years, Steam Sterilization has gained popularity due to advancements in technology. The use of steam sterilization is a natural process that effectively reduces microbial activity in organic spices. Allegiant employs steam sterilization for all its organic products, including conventional basils, and half of its other conventional offerings.
